On Thursday, 19 November 2009 at about 14:00, the SAPS Pietermaritzburg Search and Rescue Unit retrieved the naked body of an unidentified white male (28) from the Umsunduzi River, next to a low level bridge along the Bishopstowe Main Road in the Bishopstowe policing precinct of Pietermaritzburg.

Police believe that the body may have been in the river for approximately a week as it was in an advanced stage of decomposition. No other identification could be established due to the condition of the body.

Police are making an appeal to anyone who can assist with the identification of the deceased or any information to contact the Branch Commander of Bishopstowe SAPS - Warrant Officer Deon du Plessis on 033 390 3521 or on his cell at 082 459 7639.
