On Wednesday, 12 January 2011 at about 20:45, the police received a report of a murder at a house in the Hhaza area in the Taylor's Halt policing precinct.
On arrival at the scene, the police found the body of an adult male, who has been identified as FALAKHE MAXWELL DLADLA (26), lying on the floor in the kitchen. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.
Initial investigations at the scene established that Dladla was bathing in a room behind his tuck-shop situated next to his house, when he heard a knock at the front door. It is believed that he covered up and proceeded to the tuckshop when he was confronted by two men. One of the men produced a handgun and fired several shots at Dladla, seriously wounding him. The suspects thereafter fled from the scene on foot.
Dladla immediately ran into the kitchen and told his sister what had happened and fell to the ground. His sister subsequently contacted the police and ambulance services. Dladla passed away prior to the arrival of the emergency services. Several 9 mm expended cartridges were found at the scene.
Motive is unknown. No arrests.
