Outdoor lighting is a big must, criminals rely on darkness. The less the better. Lighting should be fitted so that you cannot be observed from the outside in.
Electric fencing is another huge must, these systems are cheap to run once they have been installed and provide excellent security.
The benefits of an automated gate is huge, the last thing you want to be doing is getting out of your vehicle while in front of your home. You should also cut away any bushes and shrubs around your driveway and anywhere a potencial criminal can hide.
When hiring staff, talk to your Neighbours, you want to find someone you can trust to work on your property that your neighbours know of or employ themselves.
All doors should be locked at night, and keys should not be left anywhere visible from the outside. Also make sure that no-one can see you asleep from the outside.
Garden tools such as spades and ladders should also not be left around the house or be easily accessible. These can be used against you.
What about outside security beams? I am told by a guy, (who actually works for a security company) that the "bad guys" case your the area they are going to hit during the day and note where security beams are situated. Then under cover of darkness they either crawl under or jump over the beams. As the alarm can ONLY be activated when both beams are breached at the SAME TIME.
So would I be wasting my money installing them?
Can someone help me?
Hi, Derrick asked me to comment on the outdoor beams. Roboguard beams are wireless and cover up to 20 metres in an arc of 100 degrees. When positioned correctly they can be almost impossible to spot from the outside or inside of the property and because of their range they become very difficult to avoid. They can also be installed to cover each other, so by trying to avoid one beam you trigger another one.
